Design Water Hygiene and Sanitation interventions to reduce mortality and morbidity
Since its inception, ACHI has been supported by Green Label Services Limited as its main funder. On several occasions Green Label Services LTD (GLSL) has contracted ACHI to implement a number of its community health projects. Currently as contracted by Green Label Services and on behalf of Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) and China Railway No. 5 (CR5), ACHI is spear heading the sensitization on HIV and AIDS among the road construction workers and communities affected by the road construction to mitigate the impact of HIV and AIDS and also to increase awareness among the communities so as to stop new infections resulting from the construction workers on the road construction of the Bulima – Kabwoya Road (66Km) in Hoima district. In addition to this, ACHI is increasing awareness on the causes and dangers of Gender Based violence (GVB), promoting child protection and Occupational Health and Safety (OSH). ACHI is also sensitizing Health Workers and community members on the safe practices of health care waste management in 75 districts in Uganda where Green Label Services is responsible for collection, transportation, treatment and safe disposal of health care waste under a USAID funded project.
We sensitize on the effects of environmental degradation and the role of women in mitigation of climate change. We select women leaders, group them for trainings to empower them on conducing assessments and to petition authorities on environmental degradation in their respective communities. Women are being trained on Income generating activities such as
• Making Briquettes from Solid Waste
• Making Energy saving stoves
• Practicing kitchen gardening.
• Tree planting

Alliance for Community Health Initiative implements programmes and projects aimed at reducing the risk of child exploitation in form of child labour, sexual abuse and other forms of abuses in the communities such as slums and major towns, Home based and school based abuses against children’s rights, Agricultural sector such as Tea and sugarcane plants, Mining and stone quarries, infrastructure projects such as road construction projects.
The organization conducts a series of activities in the community to prone to Child abuse practices to raise awareness and increase access to information on matters of Child protection. Activities for campaigns against child abuse and exploitation which the organization conducts include but not limited to;
• Designing, producing and providing to communities with Information Education and Communication (IECs) materials and other promotional material such as posters and billboards in public places.
• Promotional events such as sports events, debates in schools, Radio and TV talk shows.
• Psychosocial support for children that might have been victims of abuse
• Undertaking monitoring and reporting child abuse
• Engaging with existing child rights protection institutions including government agencies.
• Removal of child labourers from workplaces,
• Rehabilitate the children withdrawn from child labour
• Reintegrate the children withdrawn from child labour to schooling system to attain
life skills for competitive employability.
• Sensitize and create awareness on child labour at all levels
• Social mobilization and child labour prevention interventions to all children affected by child labour and their families.
• Identify and withdraw children from the worst forms of child labour and rehabilitate them through: second chance education programmes, providing vocational training and non-formal education.
• In collaboration with MGLSD Conduct research on child labour.
• Build resilience of the community through economic strengthening activities to stop reliance on children as source of income.
• Advocate for the elimination of child labour in all its forms by strengthening systems and structures at different levels in the country.
• In collaboration with trade unions and employers, promote social dialogue in the community as mechanism to eliminate child labour.
• Strengthen linkages and partnerships with government programmes to harness resources for child labour activities.
• Integrate child labour concerns in the collective bargaining agreements
• Provide institutional structures in various enterprises to enable integration of child labour issues within employers’ policies
• Promote schemes to improve the working conditions of young workers
• Promote the observance of national laws and regulations on child labour within their constituencies;
• Provide surveillance and gather information on child labour cases;
• Participate in the development of Collective Bargaining Agreements to prevent child labour; and
• Mobilize resources to support the elimination of child labour in Uganda.
As a Community-Based Organization (CBO), we heed the call to lead in promoting disease prevention initiatives and empowerment of communities for better health, working with partners, the government and other actors to contribute to community health.
We aspire to a Uganda in which disease prevention and community health are prioritized. We seek ACHI where staff engage effectively and efficiently with the highest level of accountability, commitment and passion for the wellbeing of communities, as well as leaders holding staff accountable. ACHI is governed by a five (05) member Board of Directors while the Executive Secretary is assisted by a team of Programme Managers, Finance Manager, Project coordinators to carry out the day-to-daymanagement. They are supported by a team of five (05) well qualified and experienced full-time staff.
Launched on 05th/Feb/2016, Alliance for Community Health Initiative is a Community Based Organisation that works in partnership with public, private, and civil society institutions to improve the quality of life of Ugandans through the provision of quality public health and Environmental health solutions.
